After building schools last year, InMotion is now bringing light to Africa
By Danijela Demarin
A charity concert titled “Light Up With InMotion” will take
place on May 3 at the P. M. Cocktail Bar in Prague 2, where students from different
universities will gather in an effort to improve education in rural areas.
This is the second event of this nature. The first one was
held at the same venue in April last year, when UNYP Student Council and The
Birthday Suit joined forces to raise funds for the African Rural School
Foundation and support establishing schools in Uganda . Sponsored by the club, The
Birthday Suit, Oriflame, King Aseem and many more, the concert was a great
success, raising over 25,000 CZK.
This year, the scope of the event has been expanded to include a number of other Prague universities.
Negotiations were still in progress at deadline, so the exact schools will be
revealed in the near future. The concert program includes performances by
various DJs, UNYP’s InMotion Dance Team, and an American-style auction of UNYP Blazers, with the highest bidders
winning dates with the players.
The main goal of this year’s event is to financially support
One Million Lights, a nonprofit
organization based in California
that provides solar lighting systems for children in rural areas, enabling them
to be educated. Universities such as Stanford, Harvard, Hendrix and
Wharton have previously supported the same organization in its missions around
the world, especially Africa, Asia and sensitive parts of the Americas .
“Our main goal is to increase children’s possibility to be
educated the same as we are, no matter where they are located,” says Martina
Kavanova, one of the organizers. “We are very much aware of the importance of
education and therefore want to help as much as we can.”
